Anika Nilles, amazing composer, and queen of subdivisions!

Have you come across German drummer, Anika Nilles? Finding her YouTube about 6 years ago inspired me to get back into drumming again after a very long break!

She’s known for her incredible compositions which won her big audiences on her YouTube channel. I love her precision, and how she does so much with clever groupings and subdivisions. Also, though I grew up mega inspired by Stewart Copeland’s fine hi-hat work in The Police, Anika’s is the next level 🤫

Check out this gorgeous live studio recording of her track Pikalar, with a cameo appearance of a famous 80s song by one of her key influences 😁

Anika made quintuplets happen, and we’ll never be the same again 🤩 She talks about these in a really cool lesson she did with Drumeo back in 2015. If you’d like to get into quintuplets too, just ask me at a lesson. They’re so much fun to play!
